OUR
VALUES AND BELIEFS
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
– All levels of government must exercise maximum fiscal restraint and
responsibility. The welfare of all citizens should prevail over all special
interests. Taxes should be low, fair, simple, devoid of social engineering,
applicable equally to all citizens and limited to fund only lawful government
duties. Governments should not engage in services traditionally provided by
private charities or private enterprise. Public employee union negotiations
must be transparent with negotiated settlements subject to voter approval.
PUBLIC EDUCATION
- Public education should be organized, managed and funded at the local level
in the best interests of students, their parents and society including support
for charter schools, home schooling and other innovative alternatives.
Education should develop virtuous students in a safe, disciplined environment,
well educated in American and world history, philosophy, the liberal arts and
highly proficient in reading, writing, science, and math.
SECURITY –
A strong, well-trained, fully supplied, flexible and responsive military and
state-of-the-art weapons and defense systems assure peace through strength. The
US should avoid foreign entanglements wherever possible and concentrate on
national defense. A well-armed and well-educated citizenry is key to domestic
peace, community and individual safety.
FREEDOM
–Free speech, free religious expression, individual responsibility, work
ethic, personal accountability, rule of law, private
property, entrepreneurism, and equal opportunity are foundational to American
culture and its perpetual attraction to lawful immigrants. Government
intrusions into private lives and private enterprise must be few, justified,
constitutional and subject to voter approval. Courts must uphold contract law,
limit takings by eminent domain strictly to ’public uses’ and then only after
due process and fair market compensation. Government must support capitalism
and free markets, properly regulated to promote market efficiencies and equal
opportunity and fair competition.
US CONSTITUTION
– The US Constitution remains uniquely effective in eliciting the best
and mitigating the worst inclinations of human nature. Federal officials may
exercise only those powers delegated to the US by the Constitution, must
respect state sovereignty and must not subordinate US sovereignty to the UN or
other world bodies. US courts must reject reliance on foreign law and apply the
law in strict construction of the Constitution. American history, culture,
ideals and exceptionalism should be taught in schools and promoted by society.
American patriotism should be celebrated and encouraged as it is uniquely
devoted to the Founding ideals as opposed to geography, race, ethnicity or
creed. Governments should promote equality before the law, due process, swift
and fair justice for all individuals and reject the arbitrary political
creation of protected groups.
